The Full Story
Big Bliss DTK
Big Bliss was founded in 2016 by Jade Martindale in what our original members affectionately refer to as "the church". In 2018 we officially moved into the beautiful and historic 55 Victoria St. N and we've been there ever since, proud to be a cheerleader and pillar of our downtown community.
Mission
Big Bliss was founded on the simple principles that everyone can benefit from yoga, therefore everyone should feel welcome and safe in a yoga studio. Our approach is to actively engage and involve any student who comes to us to learn yoga, regardless of their physical fitness, skill level, lifestyle, or background. This means more than being friendly, this means reaching out to students, asking questions, and encouraging them to be an active participant in our community.
Vision
No person is an island, and working together informs everything we do. The Big Bliss community of students and teachers is incredibly important to who we are. We believe in helping each other, listening to each other and being a positive role model in the greater community as a whole. That means we are allies, anti-racist, and pro-equality. The Big Bliss studio works to create a community with other small businesses and other modalities of fitness to facilitate a robust network of like-minded individuals. As teachers, we take our responsibility to our community seriously and work to represent and bolster it in our words and actions.
Values
Big Bliss Yoga teachers are science, alignment, and anatomy-focused. As teachers, we commit to keeping up to date with current exercise science and continuing our education throughout our careers.
Big Bliss yoga teachers do not use toxic or negative body imagery to sell their services to students and we never assume our client’s goals when they come into our classes. Our focus is on self-care, self-love, non-judgement, and non-competitiveness and we try to live that every day on and off our mats.
